The Uncomfortable Side Effects And Complications Of Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms

Taavi MaddoxBy Taavi MaddoxJune 26, 2022No Comments2 Mins Read

One of the clear indications of alcohol dependency is experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms. The symptoms are uncomfortable and might also trigger dangerous health complications that could also be life-threatening.

Reasons for alcohol withdrawal

Alcohol creates a sedative effect on the brain that suppresses the neurotransmitters and makes people experience feelings of happiness and relaxation after drinking. For heavy drinkers, the body and the brain become completely dependent on alcohol. In such cases, when the person abruptly stops drinking, the neurotransmitters are not able to adjust which causes disturbing side effects of withdrawal.

The body needs time to adjust without alcohol and this adjustment period causes debilitating side effects like:

  • Shakes
  • Nausea
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia

Taking professional help

If you are looking for professional but encouraging help for treating withdrawls from alcohol, Detox to Rehab can be the best option. They help people to navigate and help in their journey by aiming to build a community of caring and like-minded individuals for overcoming any addiction that they are struggling with.

Individuals struggling with addiction and withdrawal issues get the needed support for a new future through informative videos, engaging articles, and friendly discussions.

Stages of alcohol withdrawal

Stage 1 can start within 6 hours till 25 hours after the last drink.  It subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Symptoms are intense cravings, headache, nausea, and anxiety.

Stage 2 starts between 24 to 48 hours after the last drink with more intense symptoms like high blood pressure and pulse rate, depression, anxiety, and irritability.

Stage 3 involves DT or Delirium Tremens which begins within 48 to 96 hours. It includes too much itching, the feeling of bugs crawling on the skin, burning, and rashes.

Many individuals feel hesitant to quit drinking due to the fear of experiencing painful withdrawal symptoms. However, it is essential to understand that continuing with alcohol addiction forever cannot be more important than your health, integrity, and cherished relationships.
